What are these on my 73 bus?

Hi all, am new to this site and this is my 1st bus its a 1973 devon moonraker and we are in the processs of cutting all the rust out, all the usual places will put some photos up soon.
Im trying to figure out what these 2 small electrical units are that have been added to the rear quarters by the rear tailgate there is 1 either side and have 2 wires to each. The units can be seen from the outside through the air grills at the rear quarters.
Im hoping the photo has uploaded if not perhaps somebody can guide me through it

Can you see them from the outside of the bus?

 

Yes you can through the grill they are screwed in from the outside the inner panel has been cut out so they must be an aftermarket item

 

Bodged interior lights? Have they got bulbs in?

 

no bulbs in them

 

What is in them?

Where do the wires go?

 

iv not followed them through yet but they run down the rear quarter panel,need to get under van to follow them through

 

Surely looking at the other side would resolve this issue?

 

Theres only a facef plate on the other side through the grill ill see if i can get a photo up

They look like a light that has been sprayed over?

 

Where does the wire go? Down into the engine bay then what?

 

It all makes sense now . Had it all back to front in my head!

No idea what they are, maybe some joker wanted lights flashing inside the grills.

 

Are they ticking????!
