Westy PopTop paint

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by pkrboo, Aug 29, 2011.

  1. What paint should i use to paint my Westy Pop top?

I would remove the whole thing and get it done at a boat place with new resin etc but I dont have the time or money or space to keep the bus dry and under cover while the top is off.

I was going to do a light sanding with some emery paper and then a quick coat of something white.

So what should i use? Hammerite? normal car paint? brush, roller or spray?

I did read in a past Camper and Bus mag that you can use a special gel paint but further than that, some have used rustoleum and rollered it on...

  3. Rustoleum rolled on is good my hole van is done with it

  4. Roll on some Tekaloid. Avenue Coatings will mix to your spec. I did 2 coats with 1 litre but only just. You might as well get more considering the postage.

It's good stuff and no primer needed.

Rustoleum, Tekaloid....can the names sound any less piles cream/rock that will kill Superman?

  6. After proper prep, paint with 2 pak high build & after sanding smooth with 250 grit paint it with 2 pak L90D
That will give you a factory finish. :)

  7. Also need to do this and don't have anywhere undercover.

how long does the two pak take to dry?
Can you recomend any particular brand?
Will it deal with the usual crazing on the corners?

    Cheers

  10. Yeah its dry to the touch after about 2 hrs Rocket takes some of the shine out but will speed it up.
Don't let it get wet for about 12hrs or it will look like a vinyl roof. Ask me how I know :(
