Westy LPG tank filler adapter

  1. Hi, I've two Westy buses, an '80 T25 and a more recently acquired '73 Bay. The T25 has an LPG tank underneath that I liked so I've bought a second hand one to fit to the Bay. The T25 is about to go to the ex and I get to keep the Bay. :)
I've a screw in bayonet type adapter so I can fill up in the UK, this works fine with the T25 but doesn't quite seem to fit the threads on the second hand tank I've bought.
So I'm wondering if I need a different adapter (think USA tanks are different?) or could the threads on the filler on my second hand tank kippered? No idea of the origin of the tank I bought. I guess could be either but thought I'd ask before I start buying anything.
    Cheers, D

  2. Could be threads are a bit rough, some of the adaptors do need a tweak to get it to fit though, a bit of a file on the threads might be enough, I think @Chrisradioman had to file his a bit

  3. I think the USA westy tanks were made by a firm called Manchester. Theres loads of threads on thesamba.com about underfloor tanks in the Vanagon and Bay window sections of the forums and the valves fitted to them.

  4. On my US Westy tank, an adaptor is required.

On the standard fitting, there is a thread on the inside AND the outside, so you can use two different types of adaptor.

So if the outside thread is damaged, you can use the inside one.

  5. Definately only one interior thread on my second hand tank. The adaptor's thread is also definately ok, I've two of them and they both fit fine on the T25 but not the bay. Looks like the thread on the tank filler might be damaged. Damn another £30 or so I hadn't figured on.
    Thanks for the replies. D
