Westy LPG tank - easy as ....... ??

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Lasty, Feb 8, 2014.

  1. Just picked up an underslung LPG tank and am looking at running the gas appliances off it ...
I`m currently using a 907 camping gaz cylinder to cook and cool the fridge but may possibly be persuaded into a propex hence the extra capacity .

Sooooo .... Anything to change or is it just a case of fitting the tank , sorting the pipe work and off you go - with LPG instead of butane ??

    :hattip:

  2. quite a few regs to comply with but if you buy a new tank all the fitting instructions will come with it...

  3. Thanks for the reply , the regs wont be an issue as its to be checked out afterwards and yes , its another ebay 'bargain' !!
My main concern is the suitability of appliancies to run on lpg and would be good to hear from someone who has swapped over . Quite happy to run the camping gaz but keeping the gas underneath frees up valuable storage space ...

if space was the issue i know a fair few on the early site keep the gas cylinder in the engine bay as theres a bit more room on an upright engine, no chance of this with mine though - i removed my under van tank 'cos it looks funk ugly imo.

  5. Cheers Rick , was thinking about putting the bottle in the engine bay but have earmarked that space for a leisure battery ....

If it was the yellow one that was on ebay i think it had a few bits missing like the regulator

  7. Might be the one - `tis orange .
I`ve had a look at a few pics and reckon you`re right about the regulator so going to ring a few people tomorrow.
Maybe they`ll put me right on a few points i need clarifying like is it just buy a regulator , filler adaptor(s) , a quick repipe and run ??
Bloke i got it off reckoned he`d used it `as is` but i`m not so sure - had gas in though ....

  8. No....according to the latest regs, the regulator has to be above the tank rather than screwed directly to the tank outlet.....and the copper pipe under the vehicle needs to be reinforced....the filler can be installed in the side of the vehicle or on an approved bracket...

the issue is, if you are going to get it checked once installed, it won't be considered retrospective....ie to make sure that what was already there is up to old standards (like seat belts/no seatbelts)

    speak to these guys

it's not complicated, but you may as well get it up to current scratch before throwing money at it
