Westy Fridge

  1. I have been wiring a PS3 into the van - 240v/12v etc. I have kept the original control unit for the fridge.

    Question is -

On the existing fridge wires, I have a double white and a single red.

The single red I have used as a 'fridge out' from the PS3 (meaning it get's power when hooked up).
The double white I have earthed.

    What happens -

If i turn the control unit to:

Battery>on Fridge>on the Led lights up and the fridge cools. (using the leisure battery) - all is good.

City mode>on Fridge>on the Led doesn't light up, fridge doesn't get cold. (using hook up)

    The odd part.

City mode>on Fridge>on the Led doesn't light up until I turn the timer... the led comes on and the fridge cools.

Any ideas?! Surely the fridge should just 'be on' rather than running through the timer?

  2. Have a look at the wiring diagram here

    Do you mean a PMS3?
Are you sure you have wired the PMS3 correctly and you are getting 12v at the fridge from the PMS3, as looking at the diagram it seems that the timer is powering the fridge via the battery and not your power supply. It's says in the PMS manual that the fridge out is for traveling only have you tried wiring the fridge power to a 12v aux terminal instead?

  3. Thanks for the wiring diagram, spent hours on the samba trawling through posts on my phone earlier.

Yes a PMS3. I will have a better understanding now that I have my multimeter back, but am pretty sure that fridge works from the leisure battery. According to that diagram, you're right, the timer is powering the fridge via the battery (which makes more sense)..

Any link for the PMS3 manual where it says fridge out is for traveling only?

    Cheers.

  4. Chappers likes this.
  5. Update: As suggested, fridge out is only when engine is running.. And as the fridge already worked straight off off the leisure battery I used the aux 1 out so that it now runs through the PMS3 240>12V when hooked up.

    city power>on
    fridge>on
    led >on Yey.

Fridge gets cool after 10mins and blinking chilly after 1hour.

Next step is the pump. There is an inline fuse by the dash and an inline fuse on the pump itself which has popped so will replace and see what tomorrow brings.

    Thanks for the advice Greenwesty.
