got a westy bed now (thanks for all the advice on the best type), but even though it's a full width there are gaps down the sides... what should go there? obviously whatever it is can't obstruct the hinges, but there must have been *something*.
It's a side cushion usually about 2" thick. Fitted on to a piece of wood and attached to the side by 2 screws by what I can only describe as picture frame hook type fixings. You can just make it out on the left.
It depends on the conversion yours came out of, as even westy full width beds differed slightly. Here is mine, its from a continental. You'll see that its like an arm rest, not a cushion. You can only see the one to the left of the picture but the other side is the same. It doesn't impede the mechanism action ;D
i know the wooden board can't go all the way across as the hinges are attached, but could the base be upholstered to go the full width without interfering with the hinges? ideally would like to close the gaps up with bed, rather than cushions/arm rests.
te width of the base cushion isn't really changeable because when you want to rock n roll the bed the base comes upright and it pretty much touches the side of the van at window height, so if you make the base wider you wont be able to rock n roll the bed from seat to bed and vica versa
are you sure you have a full width bed? If so there are no gaps to close? Post a pic of what you've got ;D
Our full width bed has the side sections and there are still gaps, not huge, but gaps that allow the bed to move freely when you put it up or down. I made small cylindrical cushions to fit either side, there not too big and they don't get in the way. ignore the dog; you can see the cushion at the side of the bed
sounds like it is full width, if you want to sell it let me know|!! just get the cushions to cover the gaps and it will be fine.
Birdy's is a 3/4 and you can't get your arm down the side of a full width bed. We can get 4 adults sat on ours ;D
