Westie bed bracketry

  1. What are the two vee brackets fixed to the underside of the seat board for?

I was wondering if I could remove them as they appear to serve no purpose other than get in the way when storing things beneath the seat/bed.

    They support the bed doh!

  3. WHS^^ they have a jiggle in them that sits on the metal top of the panel. Without them you have a recliner!

  4. Ok that was a numpty question!

They do get in the way though!

The Devon equivalents fold up, but then fall down and jam the bed in seat mode. When I made my bed I wanted to get the best of everything so used devon frame for strength, with good ply for more strength, then made westy style props from the Devon ones and fitted them right at the sides to leave more crush-free room under the bed. Then added Westy hinges so it rocked and rolled without putting my back out.

You could try moving the supports to the sides, but I think a full width bed might sag a bit in the middle then.

  6. If you reall-really need the space then an option is to have a hinged flap (around 4") on the bed front panel (the facia of the seat if you will) that will lift up and provide support in the bed position. You can make this full width so it supports the whole bed if you wish! Original supports are robably best though! how much stuff do you need to get under there?
