One like this: Preferably without the added 'weight saving' features that the one I bought and stored on ebay had - i.e. all the mounting points snapped off The electric gubbins doesn't need to work - I'll be lobbing all that anyway. I have one kidney left to spend on it, or, if you prefer I have some magic beans.....but have to be honest, for the beans I'd want some form of cow off you too, as a payment. Thinking about it, I'd want the cow to have it's own cowbell.....as @rickyrooo1 and @vanorak know, one can never have too much cowbell. Maybe we should just stick to cash.
I have one that's snapped in half as well as the mountings being broken. Like you say, rocking horse doo doo.
Is it one of these? It looks very similar. http://www.camping-online.co.uk/int...p-lighting/labcraft-dx8-linear-light-12v.html
@Moons I just found this as you can't see the picture very well. http://www.labcraft.co.uk/products/product/documents/LAB_LINEAR.pdf
Thanks for that, it is indeed very close but you know Westy owners....if there's a modern better design, we'll still pay over the odds for inferior technology!!
just my 2 cents: A few years ago I've fitted an LED lightstrip in the original casing, as the FL tube didn't work. The original LED strip came from a flashlight like this: And fitted into the Bus it looks like this: I made a report about that on my blog. (written in Dutch, but also added a Google Translate button) http://briebelbus.blogspot.nl/2009/04/de-tl-verlichting-gemaakt-op-mijn-eigen.html greetz Marcel
Hi Marcel - thank you for that link, by co incidence I have done exactly the same to mine (I used lights from Maplin) even though my tube worked - I was going to write it up here when I had them installed. The issue is the copper mounting tangs for the unit are broken, which is why I was after a new unit - might have a bash at fixing mine. When I bought it a couple of years ago there were quite a few units on ebay, seems they have died off....
I understand what you mean. Can't you make something similar from parts you can buy in the hardware store? As I put some boxes behind the light I had to bent them copper things a bit. maybe something like fingers which you can tighten with a screw. (those are used in a wallmount box like my example below) Hope you understand what I mean.
I was going to experiment with double sided trim tape to be honest - now the transformer/generator bits for the strip light have gone it weighs very little and as they are LED strips they run pretty cool - will give it go!
Indeed, They don't produce any heat. However when the bus is parked in the bright sun, you will eventually have the same kind of problems.
Is this what you are looking for? Came out of my westy...oh and sorry for all the previous empty replies....had a few issues with my laptop
We best get talking turkey then.....or badger.....or even magic beans..!! As this is surplus to my requirements, it does have a hairline crack in it and two of the mounting clips seem to have gone AWOL in the shed, but I will see if I can find them, yours if you want it?
Did anyone on here keep hold of their electrical gubbins (the ballast bit) from the old westy strip light - I'm looking to fix my light which fits and works fine other than the ballast must have failed (assume it's a faulty capacitor which I'll look at in due course but just want to pull out and get going again).
I’ve got one I’m not needing. The pics are in this thread: http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/westfalia-bits.82858/
