Westfalia front pop top drainage.

  1. Hi all,

I do hope this isn't a silly question. I can't seem to see it asked on any other thread so I suspect it is...anyroad here goes.

Should the Westfalia luggage rack that goes over the cab have drainage holes in the corners? It seems to me that that would encourage moisture to collect underneath at the outer seal.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. No question is too silly mate - mine has holes in the corners - dammed if I know exactly where the water goes though!

Yes it should. You should also have the smaller seal around the edge like a trim piece and not like the seal on the pop top part. It allows air to get under and also pass over the canvas helping it air and dry at the same time.

The water just runs out to the gutter channels.

I have on mine fitted the poptop seal to the leading edge at the middle front (about the length of the licence plate) to stop the rack rattling at speeds over 50mph due to the new trim I fitted. I also noticed it stopped the sudden down pour you get when it's raining and you need to stop. It seems like for ages that your blinded by water.

  4. Thanks all I'll take off the insulation tape in the morning and forget about bungs and grommets....

Keep the bung in the middle hole at the front of the roof rack. It's the only mod I'd recommend. It will stop the sudden down pour when you brake in torrential rain.
