We've decided to swap our 2 weeks in France for a few weeks of beautiful, secluded Scotland instead. Alright, so the weather won't be as nice, but with a brand new engine being run in I'm a bit squeamish about being out of the country while my confidence builds due to the problems thus far. We love Scotland - have spent lots of happy time there on Mull, Orkney, the Shetlands and all the beautiful coastline, but we've never been in the camper. Particularly excited about a spot of wild camping on the beach. Got no real destinations in mind as yet, other than definitely the Mishnish in Tobermory - so please recommend away any lovely campsites or wild camping spots that you can.
Ardnamurchan peninsular. There's a pub near the end where you can camp in there garden. Beautiful beaches. Neist point on Skye. Wild camp on top of cliffs
Also great campsite just south of mallaig if you're going for Skye ferry. Plockton.where they filmed Hamish Macbeth is nice Glenbrittle on Skye Harris and lewis
Zoe we did Scotland 2 years ago, it persisted down the whole week but still loved it , make sure you visit killin it's lovely and the drie to mull is awe inspiring (as long as its not too windy for the ferry. We then stayed in Oban a lovely fishing town with nice sociable bars with live music ta boot.
All i can reccomend is to take a para with you and let him sleep in a bivvy bag under the van Its well known knowledge that by taking a para with you you will have fresh purified water each morning along with the best quality dead wood for the fire Its also true that if you carry a para with you you will never be short of late night entertainment
Cambeltown ,125miles west of Glasgow,fishing/farming area/place >untouched by "modern-ism", caves containing age old wall paintings, an art deco cinema ,(open twice a week) coves, golden sand beaches (empty) palm trees, atlantic breakers ,big hills to climb , a loch to hire a boat for a trip, been going on/off for 30 years >untouched by "society " (it has it" s own ) make your own entertainment sort of place, and the big, long drive from Glasgow to get there ?wonderful /beautiful! (do not go post summer ! not unusual for place to be snowed in for months !(pub lock in,anyone ?)
Great place, good cheese, bit windy! Don't forget to go and visit Linda McCartney > not very talkative though!
wow, u been there then, voltswombat, I assumed it was my own (dirty) little private secret place ! (and no doubt ,next time I go it will be wall 2 wall campers! (tlb) dudes ) thou I did forget to mention in my previous post the great much maligned "Scottish Midge !!!!!!!!!!"(oh no, not the Midge)
The "Scottish Midge" a direct descendant of the Pterodactyl The joys of Scottish camping. Mallaig & surrounds were a favourite of mine.
