Welding a front axle

    On the lower beam. Anyone done it? I notice a patch on mine, right at the bottom part of the lowest curved inner (?) section. I noticed a crack in the middle, around the ‘steering pin’ ? Can this be welded, too? 5983FBB0-8858-4520-BFAC-DC3FA04339D4.jpeg

    Busses have had welded patches put on front beams for years to pass the MOT, mine has many patches.

    You will need 2mm steel, and looking at that, its rotted across the bottom by the pin, not just a 'crack'. Hitting it with a hammer will show..
    Just be careful if you lose too much metal, you may need to watch for warping the fixing of the steering pin, with the effect of heat from welding.

    Maybe now is the time to consider that adjustable new beam ...
