Welder problem

  1. My welder has decided not to work. It worked fine last week, got it out today and its in the huff. It turns on, the fan is running but pull the trigger on the torch and nowt happens. No arc, no wire feed. The little power light isnt on though, but i cant remember if this worked before or not. Any ideas what could cause this? I haven't got a clue where to start with sorting this.

  2. Internal fuse? Is there an internal thermal cutout that may have tripped?

  3. No idea mate, I know even less about electronics than I do about restoring rusty campers. Was just hoping I had missed something blatantly obvious....

  4. Take the torch apart. There'll be a micro switch which turns on the wire feed/current, maybe the cable's snapped or the switch is bust.

  5. Yeah I looked in torch but it all looks good, the switch clicks as normal

  6. Is the wire feed roller not doing anything?might be a build up of crud between that and the pinch roller or tension needs adjusting?

  7. Nope nothing happens at the feed motor. the main fan is running but pull the torch trigger and there's nothing. Taking it to my local welding emporium tomorrow to have a look, it's beyond me

Open the trigger and join the 2 wires together, if it goes then the lance is a problem, if not check all the wires are still connected

  9. Ok, might try that before I go. Had the side panel off to look for obvious wires hanging off but it all looked good
