Water in the battery tray, which seal had gone?

  1. Hi

I saw I had some water on my battery tray, I think the seals on my rear lights are OK, the boot seal is sealing to, where else could the water get in to the battery tray?

    Cheers

  2. Front door seals?

  3. Inside is completely dry

  4. Air intake vents.

  5. It'll come in through the rear air vents when it rains in the right direction

  6. Snap, thanks nothing that I can do about it then :(

  7. Water through the rear vents will cascade onto your battery. It's a fairly crappy design.

  8. My bus is parked on a gradient with rear end down so the water pools under the rear lights. Am I supposed to have any drain hole there or should I drill one?

  9. There should be drain holes in the battery trays, where water runs down the pressing ribs and out of the drain hole. If you're super-original, you may have a little rubber "bung on a stick thing" in the hole.

If they can't drain, the trays will rot. A useless design.

  10. When I get my bus back I am going to use a sheet metal punch to make a perfect 20mm hole under each rear light to drain water away as my bus is usually parked on an incline on my drive :)

  11. Something else for me to look at at the weekend

  12. Sounds like a plan

  13. I'd give them a severe Waxoyling.

  14. Park the other way ...

  15. i made my battery trays out of stainless steel and dished them to collect the water

then drilled a drain hole front and back

I have magnetic vent covers made out of magnetic plastic sheet with added rare earth button magnets to keep them on when it blows.
Also you should try to park your bus nose downhill as not only the battery trays but also the doors fill up as their drain holes are at the front.

  17. Yes I have noticed this too:(
But doesn't work for me parking nose down as then can't access slider. Nothing for it, I wIll just have to build a carport!

  18. Is your slider on the front or the side?

  19. HaHa! Usual place, I have to Park tight against fence on one side to allow access to my garage and shed. I put drivers side against fence so that I still have access to near side.

  20. I'd park it nose down and park the drivers side against the fence and them climb out the passenger door. Just sayin'...

    :)
