Water coming in through the front vent

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by nielsjackie, Sep 18, 2011.

  1. Hello. Just got our first van. Water is leaking in from the front vent ... any suggestions? Do we seal it up permanently or is there a better solution so the air can still flow in?

    Cheers.

  2. I think if memory serves me right there should be a gauze in behind the grill, maybe this is missing?

  3. Opened it up yesterday and there is a black flexible grill behind the metal one.

  4. the plastic mesh just stops leaves and stuff ...there should be a drain hole at the bottom of the air box with a bit of tube to take the water out , tube is about 1" diameter and eits under the bus , if its missing then vw heritage do replacements

  5. are you sure it is not leaking from the bottom of your window?

    ...or your winscreen washers?

  7. Thanks for the posts.

Been out investigating!!! Found the tube at the bottom of the air box. Took it out to ensure it was not blocked up. It wasn't. The tube was pretty dry which could be because we have been out for a drive.

The water that came out earlier def came from the airbox as we unscrewed the two side bits and some water came out. I think that rules out the window and washers as the cause of the prob.

You're right then - seal the flaps shut - you'll never use them anyway. :)
