Wash cycle for original curtains and bed cover?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Almag, Feb 18, 2014.

  1. Hey folks,

Not quite sure if this is the right section to post in and it might sound a bit daft, but just wondering if original curtains and bedding fabric would survive a washing machine wash and what cycle should they go on - hand wash, synthetic??!!

    Cheers!

  2. i'd go for a cool wool wash to begin with. you may need to do it a couple of times but better that than shrinking them.
also, use some bicarb in your wash and white vinegar in the rinse cycle. should keep em lovely and fresh :)

I have washed a few and they come out like new, I did a 40 wash with a pre wash etc, used normal washing powder and vanish, I was very pleased at how well they came up

  4. Cheers guys. Didn't want to shrink them that's for sure! I don't think they've ever been washed so might need to go through a couple of times!

  5. Depending on the fabric content they may well take a 40 wash but I always go for a wool wash first to check colour fastness etc.
bicarbonate and vinegar will take any musty damp smells out. A cup of each, one in main wash, vinegar in place of fab conditioner. :)

  6. I did a set of Riviera rear mattress cover on a cool 30 C wash and it disintegrated. I guess check how sturdy the fabric is first! If it seems thin and weak then use a delicate wash. If I'd realised before if have stuck it inside a pillow case to reduce the violent action of the machine
    :)

  7. Our og westy mustard stuff was minging when we bought Wilma. We bunged all curtains and.seating fabric on a hot washe ( not to be recommended) but it was fine.

  8. Thanks everyone. Thanks for the pillow tip @Joker - will definitely try that!

Riviera fabric is not as good as westy stuff. It maybe Cotton , seems to degrade quicker , westy material is made out of polyester cotton I think, it's not wool or cotton that's fer Shizz :D

  10. If any part of the fabric is sun bleached I'd be very careful machine washing. in extreme cases hand washing will cause it to disintergrate.

  11. Reading this , I could have been on earlybay.com..:D
