Just give the starter a solid tap or two with a PIECE OF WOOD if he reckons it's the starter, don't wack it it with a hammer or you may be buying a new s m when it cracks the case
Don't go to the Magpie in whitby go to Silver street fisheries, best chippy ever http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restau...and_Chips-Whitby_North_Yorkshire_England.html
Bern you can wild camp at Saltwick bay mate , see the wild camping section. Yeah Silver street chippy is the best.
There isn't an earth lead on the starter... 3 things you can do if it happens again, Wait patiently while everything cools down. Get Jenny to turn the key to start position while you tap it gently with something heavy. Turn ignition on and short the starter main and spade terminals with the end of a large screwdriver. The last 2 will make you jump and both will teach you it's better to park facing downhill (for a bump start in 2nd) and avoid parking over muddy puddles. In the meantime, the starter terminal that causes the trouble is the small spade one. Check it fits tightly. Pull it off and scrape the terminal with whatever you have and if it's a loose fit squash it a bit with whatever you have to hand.
Cheers Steve. You talk like I don't carry an extensive tool kit. I'll have you know I have pliers and a screwdriver. I now also have a greasy thumb print on my Haynes manual for authenticity
