Vynii ~ Another 1973 Westy for restoration

For the past 8 years we've been running around in a 1966 split screen Devon camper which has been brilliant. However with a growing family and becoming more adventurous in our trips I thought it was time for a change.

So along came Vinii.



Half of him missing, half rusted away makes no logical sense whatsoever, but I couldn't let him die. The p/o had robbed everything Westfalia from him along with the engine and anything else salvageable. On the plus side this gives me free rein to do what I like with it without being harassed by the resto police, or so I hope!

So whilst I am busy collecting parts I've got the van (can I call it that, or shell??) up to Justdubz who will do the majority of the work.

I got a good deal on a Continental interior. I know it's from a later model but then this is not going to be a 100 point resto!





Not sure at this stage if I'll keep the orange fabric or switch to beige so may be up for a swap on this..

Hope to see it on the road this side of summer, but I've said that before!

Plans are quite simple, all body work and paint , dropped spindles up front 1 spline at the back, 2 litre type 4 engine, heater, sounds and Porsche tombstones with westy inlay. Underside will be painted on the rollover jig with dinitrol then painted body colour. Of course all of this may change!

***edit***

First change - not one spline, spring plates to match the dropped spindles. I'm starting to love the parts availability for bays!

 

Are these your new doors c/w glass?


I hope not because they're going to need new glass...

HA! my kitchen window at home is peppered with grinder spatter from cutting the floor out of my landy loadbed on the drive......................

Haha! No don't worry - the doors you'll note were not there whilst the grinding was going on. However they are of course trash, but we do have a new pair from the US which are mint.

Thanks Ricky - my last welding was done in the early 90's. Nowadays I limit myself to parts collecting and installing the roof rack then taking all the glory! I do love to see a wreck saved though and these guys excel at that.
