  1. so how did my grandads kombi, not a panel van nor a dc or sc ute have bench seats. it was 1 1976 model. now its probably has been recycled into a pile of soap metal.....

He obviously didn't get it engineered.

How many kids did he have?

I have the middle seat in mine but I have never seen one engineered

You could buy a pukka kit for it actually.
I made my own for a 68 I used to have.

  5. it was licensed on the plate for 9 seats . Probably a one off. Not a twin slider.

  6. Kombi is back home for some final welding and cleaning. Here is the front beam hard dirty job with grease everywhere. A combination of a scraper, wire brush paint stripper wire wheel on grinder and power washer.

  7. fits tight in my garage. it all now needs to get striped to bare metal. My guy has done the old school method of body work. He doesn't strip the car first to bare metal and then prime the car and panels. I still think it is fine to just weld all together first. he has put tectile in the cavity though so that will probably protect more than paint. doors all open and close and the windscreen fits. welding and panel beating is good so good job. the door skin is still left and some welded need grading back and a couple of small things.

  8. That's a nice fit to the bottom of the sliding door.
Wish mine was as good as that, would save me having to do it again!

  10. Body work is all finished now. Still may need some grinding and filling ect with the welder but the last panel witch was the door skin finally arrived after 3 months of waiting.

  12. Congratulations Dean for sticking with it.
When do you think it will go for a bit of colour?

    have you picked a colour?

  13. End of February. I'm not sure what colour to pick. originally It what white. Regardless I will go with a original VW colour that is correct for that year model.

  14. With all the body work now at a stage that is good enough for the painters to paint and do everything necessary I have been given an estimate of $12,000-$15,000. This is to do the usual so filler, seam sealer, panel work ect. what are thoughts do you guys have?

  15. my kombi is ready for painting next week.

Anyone here in Australian know of some panel beater called Ed? he has now done a runner and has left the country.

Anyone that knows any info please contact me as he has all my parts that was supposed to be delivered to the painter but he was happy to store them whilst my kombi was at my house. I really need all those parts otherwise I will never be able to finish this off. it was over $10,000 in brand new parts for electrical, mechanical, locks, windows, glass steering and suspension. not to mention all the other original parts like the motor, fuel tank, gauges, speed, some locks chairs and mech seats, pedals ect.. im really upset about this. he was on holidays and supposed to be back. I called a neighbour at his workshop and they said he pack it all in a container.

That's awful to read Dean, I sincerely hope the Australian VW community helps find the parts and get them back to you.

All you know of this guy is that he's called Ed?
You entrusted 10k of parts to someone you have no other details for him except his first name and that now he's left the country?
There must be some other way to track this guy down locally via the police etc
