Hello! Last week I picked up a very sound Late Bay Camper, 1976 Had an engine rebuild 1900 miles ago apparently. Always gets comments wherever I go. Plans are to turn it back into a camper, did have a stove etc so I am told and will do again. It is very BLUE! might tone down the interior with different rear flooring and teak or light oak units that I plan to build myself. Currently has a very clean as new Paris Slide back roof. I want a pop top, any suggestions? Happy to trade if anyone has one. Just replaced the heat exchangers as a foul smell of burning inside, was just oil from the rocker boxes and the plastic hose wasnt even connected to the exchangers! So all fumes were coming back in. Turns out the old ones are fine, so I will see if anyone wants them on ebay. Setup the tappets whilst I was at it, haven't done that in 30 years Just loose steering links to sort out and she will be fine for the open road. I am told by an expert restorer that the steering has too much play, how it passed the MOT a few days earlier I will never know! You can also see the fogged headlights too, luckily they cleaned ut with a rag on a wire.
Looks a nice bus mate, no doubt you'll spend countless hours and pounds doing bits and bobs to it! Enjoy!
Yeah, rocker covers onto heat exchangers, bane of my life, welcome, lovely looking bus, dosent look 76 though ?
Welcome to the forum Jon. I noticed a bus the same colours as yours appear a few days ago parked up outside a junior school in our village between Cambridge and Peterborough, is it yours?
Hi From West Lancashire - looks tidy - but it's got an early front and a late rear - what's its history?
Someone's done half an early conversion on it by the looks. New front panels only have high indicator holes don't they? Looks nice though. If you took off original heat exchangers and put on repros, swap back before flogging the spares. You'll thank me come November!
Nice, enjoy it Work out how you are likely to camp in it, before spending loads on converting the interior. Are you likely to mainly camp for weekends or longer holidays? Cooking in the bus, in an awning, under a rain shelter or going to the pub? Are you as tall as 'jaws' or as short as Kenny Baker RIP (R2d2) ?, that will help you decide if you need a pop top Im a huge fan of double beds, but it leaves less room for cooker, storage etc. I love my pop top, so I can stand up and walk around.
