Very miffed to say the least

  1. I was chatting with a few local folk tonight
It came around to the topic of ex forces people and employment locally
It seems local people dont want to employ ex forces people as and i quote there all fecked up and are still in afgan in there heads

One landowner said i dont want to employ someone i have to watch all the time in case they have a flash back

So much for being proud for serving your country and others being proud of you for the sacrifices you made

I think I'm feel the opposite, ex forces (those that I know) are well disciplined and hard working - though there could be some that don't give a £&@! And are unemployable - I've not met one yet

Chin up - they (the local folk) must be small minded and afraid of the competition.

  3. Nothing like broad sweeping statements is there? This is probably due to excessive coverage of post traumatic stress disorder and the general publics lack of ability to assimilate much of the information they are bombarded with by the media. PTSD is rightly highlighted but doesn't obviously apply to all ex forces.
Too many people generalise these days it seems to me because they've heard something they didn't fully understand .

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

I can understand their point as while at a family wedding the brother of the bride in the space of the weekend try to pick a fight on four occasions, some with the wedding party some not.

It is the modern age which doesn't help as they return from the front in hours rather than days which gave them time to come down and talk it over with comrades.

Not that I'm saying all soldiers would be the same, most I guess manage OK.

  5. Im not stressing about it too much dude as its the locals round here

I met a landowner a week or so back who had been let down by migrant workers time and time again and was complaining about everything they did or didnt do
A lot of what he was complaining about would never happen if i was working for anyone
He seemed keen as hell wanting to me to work for him and it sounded a very suitable job for me
He never rang me and i wondered what it was about me that had put him off

I found out later hes got another migrant worker living on his land working for him

With some people round here i could start my own demolishing company with all the banging head against walls i do lol

  6. Not all ex forces are soldiers;)

True but this one is and they see more Marmite than most of the rest.

  8. Not many military are true soldiers!!

  9. I think thats the nail on the head or in the coffin so to speak and the person who mentioned the media before

People see that much about afgan and ptsd in the media they imediatly relate the phrase ex forces with the army and not stable thats why they came out

I met a lass who had done 8 years in the forces(Navy)
She had signed up for 9 years but had to leave because she was pregnant and her fella was also in the navy
He could of left and she stayed in but she wanted to be a mum and stay at home fair play i say

The little un got to one year old and they split up and being a civvy she had to leave the forces house and rely on the local housing authority
Little un grew up and started school so she trained as a childminder and wanted to move onto running a nursery

No can do because social services were called after she broke her ex fellas nose when he came to hers drunk and tried to take the kid for a drive

  10. Not many people nowadays are true to them selves

Tell you what theres feck all chance of me joining up in the next lifetime
I only joined the forces as my dad told me to get a job or get out of the house

Being a young lad locking horns with his dad i thought feck you watch this ill do both and i did

  11. meaning?

Michelle was in the Fleet Air Arm based in Northwood - she served her time and left mid way through the first Gulf war. She went for one interview & she was asked about her past job & her training, she was mid way through telling them when one guy chiped up that he didn't believe she was in Northwood as women didn't work there, it was not there kind of place! Subsequently, Notts County Police Force gladly gave her a job :D

Mate it seems you're only interested in the positives of "ex-forces".
I worked with a lot of ex who probably left in the 70's/80's and they are as you describe good solid well trained hard working and calm chaps.
Since then there has been a lot more pressure on particularly the army, more tours less time between, war after war after war. A high proportion of people I come across now do seem to be fecked up TBH. Not their fault - the game has completely changed. Being in the forces used to be a holiday around the world with the odd tour in N.I. Now it seems to be Iraq, afganistan, seeing your mates blown to bits and a few weeks off before you're back in the thick of it.

Wouldn't put me off employing ex though. I judge people as I find them, but what would put me off would be an ex expecting special treatment because he'd been in the forces. Everyone has had some experience of something and I personally find this attitude that ex-forces persnael are somehow "better" than civies galling.

  17. I believe there is too much "negativity" regarding Soldiers etc going "civvy street"
of course SOME will be affected NOT ALL.
However a child brought up in a violent household will not have to put this on a CV.
What I am trying to say is that SOME PEOPLE can be very judgemental by reading a bit of paper,
would it not be better to judge someone by getting to know them first !!!!!!!!!

  18. Indeed and your mostly correct

I never did afgan but spent a lot of time in various other places and encounterd some not pretty things
I did howver spend my time in the forces when those in civvy street had respect for you and it was an honourable career

Im ashamed to admit it but from now on im going to hide my past and concoct some cock n bull normal story and see how i get on

I shouldent have to hide my past im not a criminal but one thing the forces did teach me is you have to adapt to over come in order to carry on

  19. Your own views and your allowed to air them

I know you take people on how you find them and that makes you a minority as most employers are scared of the what ifs
There under so much pressure as it is they cant take a risk just in case

  20. Brilliant and what i want for myself

Dont tar me with that big fat brush because im ex forces

Yes im a little weired but my values are true and honest and when you get to know me you will realise im a good type of chap

Unfourtunatly the predudice in some small societys far outweighs the common sense
