Hi photo below shows the wires I am unsure of. The blue one at the alt regulator is cut off and there is a thin rectangular connector block that it is also cut off from. The thick red and yellow/cream wire i presume would go to the battery? (The earth cable it is attached to goes nowhere) and then the black connector block has a few other bits I am unsure of as you can see they come from the loom and then end at the connector block. Then there is these. I know I have asked before but I can't find the thread. The engine previously had fuel injection and this has been removed, just in case it bears any relevance ie an ecu or something.
Just been doing exactly this today, mine is FI , blue is alt warning light, should be corresponding one coming out of the loom. White plug is snail fan, Would help if you cleaned then up a bit so I can see colours properly, the two that look black in the black sheath?
Yes - the cut off blue wire is for the Alt/Battery light. Here's a "van shaped" wiring diagram: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/bus_8_71_1700.jpg The red/white wire which is joined to the Green/Yellow "earth" wire in your pic is shown in the diagram - it goes from the alternator B+ terminal, to the starter solenoid (and battery +), and then to the fusebox at the front. This is the only red/white wire in the van. If you're in Kent, I may be able to lend a hand with the electrics if you need. Our van which has a type 4 lump installed so can cross reference.
We're in Medway - near Rochester/Chatham. I could do an afternoon or evening next week if you'd like? PM me and we can work something out.
I am flat out next week, maybe the following. I will get in touch if I get stuck. Or if you just fancy a drive down for a chin wag I am about too.
