Vapour Barriers for Door Cards Any tips?

  1. Hi there - Made some new vapour barriers for the door cards today :) , seeing as it was raining lots and I couldnt get out to the van proper. :(

The plastic is 250mu (much thicker than the pre-cut ones you get off Ebay), and I decided that I would go for the flap that most people seem to miss off (useful if you have the door vents cut into your door cards)

masked up where the flap should be joined to:

    Applied some contact adhesive:

Applied the flap (which I have made wider than it need be at the moment)

Cut out the speaker hole, and masked up where the speaker flap will go:

how it will look with the speaker in it

The completed vapour barriers (all the joins are going to be taped as well so that there is less chance of water making its way past).

Anyone think of anything that I might have missed or tips for the actual fitting?

    Thanks

  2. Top job :). As you well know, the flap behind the air vent does most of the work. The speaker flaps are neat :).

I stuck mine to the door with blobs of DumDum mastic, but double-sided tape works fine.

So are you covering the vents than??? A sheet in front and a flap behind? I thought these assisted in drying the inside of the door?

I usually just cut mine so I can tuck the bottom inside everywhere there's a hole near the bottom of the door ensuring the run off from the window stays inside the door. I realise they weren't originally done like this but it works for me.

  7. Loving the speaker flaps.

Still a little unsure as to why you have this second flap? Is it to aid water away from the door card?

The majority of rain water seems to be falling into the channel, will this flap be pushed over the channel?

  9. Oh aye - completly forgot about the sliding vent on the actual door itself rather than the card.

I'm in the process of doing this too, should've saved it for the summer to be honest.

  10. shame nobody does quality repro cab doors in fibregalss....and a mini roll cage for the front end.... O0
would solve a lot of problems

I'm a dumbo, I know, but what are these plastic things for exactly? Are they just to stop your door cards getting wet? If they are, can someone answer this dumbo questions for me please?: It's inevitable that some water's going to drip down inside the bottom of the door. But where does it go when it drips down? It must go somewhere, right, or the bottom of the door's going to rot pretty soon?

  13. Drilling extra drain holes and using cavity wax on the door skins and bottoms is what ill be doing

  15. just to add to the extra drain holes theme...drill out from inside the door aperture outwards, not from the underside inwards...better still drill out and then working inside the door aperture, use a tapered punch to knock the surrounding metal downwards so water will gravitate to the hole. If waxoyling remember to unblock the drain holes after it's set
