Vacuum Hoses / Breather Hoses Advice

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by badgerpigdog, Apr 6, 2022.

  1. Hi

I was hoping someone could chip in to clarify which hoses I should use for a couple of connections (I've found similar questions elsewhere on the forum but I'm still a little uncertain- apologies)...

I've attached a crudely highlighted picture of the hoses in question-
    Green - Distributor to Carb.
Yellow - Carb to Air Cleaner.
Pink - Air Cleaner to Thermo thing on Cleaner nozzle.
Blue - Fuel Breather from T pipe to Air Cleaner.

I understand that standard run-of-the-mill vacuum hose is suitable for the Pink connection.
Do I need fuel grade (and E10 suitable) hose for Blue, due to fuel vapours?
    What about Green and Yellow?

And are these suitable for the job?

(Side question- is fuel hose suitable where only vacuum hose is required, albeit expensive?)

    As you can see engine is a Type 1. It's a 1978.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Boggo braided stuff will do. The breather pipe to my t-piece is actually windscreen washer hose :)

You may find if you use the braided rubber hose it splits and leaks because of the heat, nuffink to do with E10...
Mine failed over by the top of the air cleaner.
Silicone hose seems perfectly Ok .. fish tank air hose e.g.
