Not entirely sure if it’s new or I’ve been in the dark ages but I came across an app the other day, basically it assigns a 3 square meter plot of land anywhere in the world a unique three word name. The article I saw it on was when someone used it to guide emergency services to their remote location ( middle of nowhere) Another useful application ( for us especially) is to send your exact location when pitched up on a campsite or festival ?? The app is called what3words https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/what3words/id657878530
Ha, that’s pretty cool. I’m currently having my lunch in my armchair at work which shall from now onwards be known as “Both Erupt Degree”!
You’ve been in the dark ages. I’ve had it for months. Although I haven’t actually used it for a journey yet. The only “favourite” I have saved, is the spot where my mother in laws ashes were scattered. Now that could be an interesting three word location
I’ve had it for ages, and like most people, used it once to find what humorous name it assigned me, and not touched it since. But yes, it is an excellent idea for remote areas / emergency services etc
Not everyone is comfortable navigating by grid reference. What Three Words is now integrated with iMessage, so you can send your three word location in a text. Could be useful if you are lost. As long as you have Wi-fi
Landford trees I nearly put down the three words for my front room but then everyone would know where I live and come and steal my camper
