Use of Cellulose paint

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by the crumpets, Aug 31, 2011.

  1. Hello all,

i am going to start to sort various parts of the paint on the van, at the moment i have got 2pk sprayed all over. Can i simply paint/spray the cellulose and thinners onto the parts after i have rubbed them down, or will the two paint types react with each other.

What ever paint is left over i am going to paint the trailer, this is normal outdoor wood gloss. would the cellulose react to this or can i get away with it.

I have got to use the cellulose as this is what i have and can't afford to get the 2pk

    Thanks

It's my understanding that 2k can be used over celly but not vice versa unless the 2k paint is a few years old.

  3. as for wood paint the thinners may burn it off. you may have to strip it,
i think to spray over 2k you can get a sealer, but prob cheaper to of got 2k

  4. stick to 2k or us 2k air dry owen nw

  5. You would have to bar coat first I think to stop it reacting with the 2 PAC , I may be wrong .
Ring your local paint supplier and see what they say

  6. celly paint reacts with everything and anything ,you can buy a product that creates a barrier to spray upon but its makes your top coate soft.......wood surface coatings will be crap on steel as there too soft ........i used to work for granyte surface coatings making there laquers so i know me stuff, feel free to email any tech questions
    peace out
