Finally got to the bottom of our half-full fuel tank problem. Pigging PO had managed to drill a hole right through the fuel tank when fitting the r+r bed. Beyond furious at the moment, as we have a couple of days only to locate a fuel tank while the engine is out, or it's going to hold us up and means no Spring Camp for us Hopefully that sad story will encourage you to check all the parts you've got knocking about in the garage/ ring all your mates/ check all the VW message boards and give me a shout if you've got a spare fuel tank. Apparently they are a couple of different sizes, and ours is the last one made so anything out of a P reg van onwards. Can collect if that helps, just really need this bus back on the road, waaaaaaaa. Thanks Zoe
If its only a single small hole then you could put a pop rivit in it and some chemical metal over the top I think matty did this as a repair on his tank
Or i think early repro tanks are available and you can dent them in to make them fit a late I think bay brum did this
It was a proper early tank from a scrapper, I didn't do it, but the mechanic who fitted it for me did.
Thanks all - we potentially have one local that my mech is just having a look at shortly. skirk if you could get me a couple of pics that would be great - thanks
Just wanted to give a HUGE shout out to skirk for all his help - typically (although fuel tanks tend to be rarer than rocking horse dooby) we actually ended up with two, someone dropped one off to the garage last night and it's now being fitted. Yet more evidence of the TLB love as skirk was absolutely brilliantly helpful. Old crap tank is now out and you can see the original Taiga Green colour of the van, n'awwwwwwwwww
And here's the offending article....spot the teeny, tiny little hole....and then all the damage caused by free flowing petrol!!
