    Hi all,
I'm making a compilation CD for my son for Christmas, and I want to put a load of unusual, obscure or just plain silly cover versions on it. So far I've got:
Smoke on the water - Senor coconut
I can see for miles - Petra Haden
    Common people - William Shatner
She loves you - Peter Sellars

But I need some inspiration for a few more. Any suggestions gratefully recieved. My lads 22, plays bass in a punk/ska type band and he's got a pretty varied taste in music if that is any help....

Moochas grarssy arrrse in anticipation amigos :D

  6. Gimme Gimme Gimme (A man after midnight) - Leather Nun
    Across the Universe - Laibach
Sun Arise - Alien Sex Fiend

Or just buy Dub Side of the Moon by Easy Start All Stars

  7. "top of the world" (Carpenters) covered by Shonen Knife is a complete joy of a crowd pleaser. I smile just thinking of it.

"just like heaven" (The Cure) covered by Joy Zipper. nice West Coast Indie version of the classic cure song.

"Sweet Jane" (Velvet Underground) covered by Cowboy Junkies. there are loads of covers of this song but the CJ lot nail it I think.

"fake plastic trees" (Radiohead) sung by Amanda Palmer on the Ukelele is pretty good.

if these are of interest I can send you the MP3s if you pm me by the way.

there are so many more great covers out there. what vibe are you after on the burn? Richard Cheese with his "Lounge against the Machine" sound has loads of scope if you like that sort of thing also.

  8. As Skyfall is out and popular now, heres a couple of James Bond theme cover versions:
    Goldfinger - Magazine
Live and Let Die - Guns N' Roses

  9. Have a look at Hayseed Dixie. They put a bluegrass spin on stuff like Bohemian Rapsody and Ace of Spades. http://www.hayseed-dixie.com/Home.html

Also look at Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. Covers of many tracks (Pinball Wizard, Shaft, Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll....)
