uber rare, rear 3 point inertia seatbelt bracket

  1. Hmm, Bus things are never straightforward!

My welded-in holes are only 24cm above the engine deck, compared with the 30.75cm dimension of the bracket. Although it may have been possible to overcome that by drilling the bracket's main mounting hole lower down (??), there are a couple of other issues that I had completely overlooked.

The inner body panel in the Split Bus is not a flat surface in this area, due to the larger separation between the inner and outer panels allowing for the external air vents to provide an air flow into the engine compartment. This inner panel has a curved shape just where the seat belt bracket would be mounted. The only way I can think of to overcome that is to use a spacer to allow the bracket to stand-off at the main mounting point, such that the bracket is more appropriately aligned.

However, that's just the nearside! The offside presents yet another difficulty, in that my welded-in mounting hole is right next to the curved panel that shrouds the tank filler neck, so there's no room at all for the bottom end of the bracket.

Unfortunately it looks like it's a non-starter, mainly because of the particular locations chosen long ago for the welded-in holes!

Guess I'll just have to keep calm and carry on!

    Many thanks anyway,
    Dave.

  2. I may have an original bracket for sale

  3. Hi I'm new on this. I tried making my own brackets but don't trust them at all. I'd be keen to fit a pair of your brackets and the covers if you have any at the moment. I have a 74 LHD originally 7 seater Microbus which appears to have all the holes required.

  4. EDITED: Sorry @davidoft hadnt realised you were making these! Serves me right for not reading the thread properly.

Do you have a pair available? Any covers?

To answer you generally - No - they won't fit as you will not have any of the upper/lower seatbelt mountings, putting them in as VW did is a lot of work.

  17. Okay does anyone have pictures to show where they would need locating? Adding them in shouldn't be a problem as I'm still at the welding stage

First few pictures of this thread but I can get measurements if you need them

  19. Some measurements would help as it's hard to work out from the pictures
