Type 4 US-Spec heat exchangers (non-cat type??) - £150

  1. I have a pair of US-spec Type 4 heat exchangers up for grabs.

They were part of a job lot I acquired and are of no use to me. They are the type for the earlier Type 4 engines with the spigot type exhaust manifold that seal with an oval copper washer.

They are from a West-Coast bus and as a consequence are in excellent condition, the only structural corrosion is on the tin 'jackets' around the stub-pipe manifolds (see second and third pictures in sequence).

I don't know much about these and am unsure if the set-up is meant to be used with a catalytic convertor or not, maybe someone out there on TLB can advise??

Collection only and cash on collection from Hereford (near Worcester).

Hi there - Ive just read your comment: "am unsure if the set-up is meant to be used with a catalytic convertor or not" - I think they are for the cat converter but will work without. The set up looks exactly like the one we have on our '77 ex cali westy. You have the crossover pipe ('tween heat ex's) then the elbow (top left of first piccie) - this is where the cat bolts on, followed by the silencor.

you dont see many set ups as complete as this for sale!

  4. Thanks Mork! I must admit to being slightly relieved at a helpful reply to my post after I have been well and truly beaten up about another For Sale thread of mine!

    :'(

    Thanks again!

yep these are the same as mine, the crossover pipe can be removed and this leaves the two exchangers with a 3 bolt triangular output on each which you can mount a silencer direct to, or you can fit a silencer with or without cat to the other pipe join, i've got all these bits as well including silencer and cat that i'm not using, good luck selling i'll keep my eye on it incase anyone else wants a set! infact on my youtube link there's a video of it all laid out which explains it
