Type 4 tinware advice

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by sharpey, Feb 27, 2013.

  1. I appear to be missing the bits of tin between the heat exchangers and the cylinder heads on the underside of my 2.0 recently imported bus.

Are they required, and what is their purpose?

If needed, where's the best place to get them?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  2. All Tinware fitted to aircooled VW engines is required, never leave any off thinking you will be helping with the engine cooling. T4 engines unfortunately are not as common as the T1 1600 uprights so parts are not as well supported, but places like VW Heritage, Just Kampers, Machine 7 should stock most of what you need, have a look at VW Heritage site they have exploded diagrams which are useful reference tools. Also look at T25 parts which in theory are a not too distant cousin enginewise.

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

If you really mean between crank case and heat exchanger, right underneath, Paul Weeding makes them. See his sticky thread in parts classified's.

  4. I think that's what I'm after!!

Thanks, I've dropped him a private message.
