Type 4 mechanical fuel pump

  1. issues I had was the common one of the pump leaking oil through the vent. My second pump just wouldnt pump. Stripped both and may have made a good one. Fingers crossed.

In the leaky one the issue seems to be that there is a sealing washer on the diaghram shaft which is deformed and doesnt seal. In the one that wouldnt pump the top part, ie the cut off valve wasncorroded inside ie white ally sulphate.

Hopefully fit tomorrow . Any one else messing with these things? Its a shame theres no rebuild kit for them!

  2. ive had a mare with the so called top quality items sold by VW heritage. they've swapped it for free but sent me an identical one back. the problem with the new ones is the pin at the bottom isnt clipped in. it's just pressed into the housing. when this works loose you end up losing oil from the pin and not to mention risk causing damage to your engine as you then have a foot and spring floating about in there somewhere... I'm in two minds whether or not to fit mine now

  3. Im suffering from fuel starvation with mine. I bought it as used but it looked brand new. Hopefully i can get my old one going and either eliminate the pump or prove its poop.
