type 4 fuel pump inlet loose

  1. I just redid the fuel hose and noticed that the inlet pipe into the pump is slightly loose. It's not leaking as far as I can tell.

The pipe is brass into the pump body which is aluminium I think, but I don't know what holds them together. It may just be a tapered push fit but I've not tried to separate them.

Has anybody had this issue and what's the solution?

  2. The fuel pressure is low so the friction and pressure seems to just hold them. I've had them come away from the carbs too. Now I alway cut off old hose now as it prevents this happening.

I tend to carefully JB weld the pipes after a good clean of the area as the last thing I want is a fuel leak and fire.

  3. Many thanks. So I’m assuming that it will just pull apart , and then I can glue it back on?

  4. Just be very sparing with the JB. It only needs a film and don't go right to the tip so that any excess is pushed out of the carb body, otherwise you will get it bits in the carbs.

I have had only some come apart, but others seem solidly stuck in.

Although to be fair all my buses have not been converted to electric pumps. They make starting faster and another circuit for me to immobilise.
