hi all, looking for the plastic alternator to tinware seal. It's the later type which fits the tin with the larger oval hole in and has a mounting tab on one side. Part number is 022 903 203. It's all that's stopping me getting the engine in and our wedding is 5 weeks today :eek:I've also got to mot and register the van if we're gonna use it for our honeymoon!

    PANIC ON!

  2. I bought the last ten from VW classic parts in Germany a few years ago. Your best bet is to make something out of plastic or a CD case is what the Americans have used in the past.

Of course some one on here may have a spare one, in that case please ignore my above comments (sorry zedders)

Haha! So I'm guessing you and zed are hoarding the last known examples in the world then! Will have to try rooting thro the old music collection to see who gets the chop then...looks like it's gonna be englebert or Chris de burgh...

  4. A DVD case may be a better shape and size.

I will check my garage to see if I have a spare

I can alway swap you the old alternator that came off my donor engine for a nice new seal ;) its untested but I'm a worry box so just replaced everything that I could so might be a goodun...
I would test it but don't fancy it flying accross the garage when it comes on load and putting a huge dent in the side of my nearly finished van:eek:

  6. I reckon a plastic floor tile would make a good seal as the plastic is a bit flexible. Or maybe even better the plasric lid off a big paint tub. I got a second hand seal a few years ago and they were hens teeth then. What would be good would be if someone has one out of their bus to trace a template on a bit of paper, mark it with dimensions and post it on here. That way anyone who needs one could print the template and cut one for themselves. I would offer to whip mine out but it's a fair bit of work and we are away in the bus tomorrow. Best of luck with it!

  9. Would be fab if someone could trace one - I've been trying to sort this for a couple of years with no luck. Engine about to go back in so getting imminent!

    Thanks!

Surely it wouldn't cost too much to get a batch made up with the proper tab etc. I'm sure if a bunch of us got together....

Alternatively, maybe some kind soul could trace round one and send it in and when finished with send it on and on...

    unfortunately not my friend!
I've just posted a wanted ad on volkszone, so hopefully there is one out there in good old blighty!

  16. I pushed the button on this one - £35 after more than 2 years looking for one was worth it for me!

I'm planning to give it to a mate who prototypes car stuff and regularly gets low volume runs done. If there is enough interest on here to make it worth the time to do this, I'll get him on the case. If not, I'll just fit it :)

If you might be interested in a repro (or something that does the job well but not for silly money), please pm me. Not interested in making money out of it, just hate it when things are classed as NLA!

TBH theres so much yet to do getting other stuff ready for the big day, its looking unlikely we'll be able to get away in the van after. Probably head off in the work van, but thanks for waiting to see if I bought it first!

  20. Right then, I have been in the garage and dug out the seals I have.

One I am keeping for myself as a spare, which has the little locating lug on.

The other came to me from VW classic parts missing the locating fork. One could easily be made and riveted on.

You can have this for the cost I postage.

I have put pics of both up to give you an idea of what the locating lug looks like, although I will make a template out of card for you. If I were you I would then a make one out of aluminium and rivet it on. I would do this for you but I am too busy at the moment.
