Twin solexes auto chokes

  1. Had some issues so decided to play with the carbs, found one of the chokes not engaging on the peg inside. Did a bit of reading and found that they should have some marks to set to on the choke and carb body. Can't see any on mine! I set the chokes by turning the outer so that the chokes are open together. Have I done right or wrong?

  2. I set mine to be fully open when engine is hot, I think that the marks were like cast lines in the body that you lined up with the choke on assembly, there is supposedly a different setting for hot and cold climatic conditions.

  3. I set mine fully open and disconnected the choke wires - I found the chokes on my OEM Solex's more hassle than they're worth - still started and ran fine, although you may find you have to tickle the throttle a little when cold for the first couple of mins to stop the engine stalling, but then after that ran much better, although I think my chokes were sticking a bit.

  4. That would solve it. Just like to keep things as vw intended. Will monitor their operation.
