hi running twin 34 ict carbs no balnce pipe between the two i have been told they run much better with balance pipe what is the best way to go pipe or no pipe ?
I done a little research for you and it seems that running a balance pipe would be conducive to smooth running. But if it is running ok as is - don't try and fix fix it.
I was advised to fit a balance pipe by my mechanics so I used pipe that is used in brake servo systems. It was also to help with the balance because I have servoed brakes. My inlet manifolds have taps in them so I was able to use those withthe copper fittings and PTFE tape. As HorTs says if it's not broken don't fix it. I don't think my old Alfasud had a balance pipe fitted.
Been running these for 3 years, never had a balance pipe, never had any problems. I concur with the above comments "if it ain't broke ................. tell the wife it is so you can get new shiny bits"!
Ive set these up on mine. Balance them when you set them up then there is no need to have a balance pipe. I have some vacume gauges I use for balancing motorbike carbs that I connect to the inlet manifolds (by the taps Birdy talks about). Remember to reconnect the brake servo pipe after though because when you go for a test run to check them you will have a shock if you dont!! Set them on idle (when the carbs are on the stop) and when they are running at around 3000 (when they are held by the connecting rods). Mine run sweet as a nut!!
Brilliant. Thanks Rich. To quote: "When installing dual single throat carburetors such as Weber ICT's they operate a lot smoother at slow engine speeds when a balance tube is installed between the manifolds. The balance tube allows equalization of pressures and provides a balancing effect during idle and mid range RPM."
