I don't know who's who but I do know what I find annoying.
He matches my criteria almost perfectly.

fuzz thownsend is the mechanic, he's also the original drummer from the band "pop will eat itself" he now drums for "the beat" the garage the show is based at is his actual resto place in the midlands, tim shaw is an ex "shock jock" dj who has been sacked from many radio stations for over the top pranks (also his mrs once sold his porsche on e-bay for 50p when she found out he was having an affair)

Funny how many start up in the entertainment industry then end up working on old cars. John Maher springs to mind. Another drummer!

ahh ok i knew it was some sporty car, he did buy it back i think for a lot more.....

  7. five grand apparently. He then tried to make a big joke of the whole affair by building a BMW sports car out of blagged bits for less than a quid on Fifth Gear.

The trouble with ALL of this type of programmes is that you never actualy see anything.
Never see a nut turned, a knuckle wrapped on a hard lump of metal as the spanner slips off the bolt .never see grindings hitting you in the eye etc etc
They are more like a sob story than a Proper restoration .
I see far better video on youtube . Learn much more on there.(search for keith fenner-a true gent and skilled engineer-you will thank me for it )
infact ive learnt most on this forum with advise and pictures explaining every step of the way ,for which i thank all contributors .
Yes the programmes are ok but never learn owt from them , infact the best lesson is to not watch them as there always a dissapointment .
(Or am i a miserable moaning old get)

I liked it too. It was funny when they were cooking the Vesta meal.

  11. No you are correct I actually hate watching any classic car resto stuff because its either so obviously staged or just drama and no content or the other extreme where its some toff with a £500000 Aston who wants all the nuts gold plated!
My mate keeps on at me to get Sky so I can watch Camper van crisis or whatever it is ! I dont need to I have lived it day to day my whole life!
When they have a programme about history if said vehicle or someones life with it then I will watch it.

I agree matty . I like to watch them , but they are not a programme about the restoration of vehicles , they are more a backdrop for the personal mishaps of the owner of the vehicle. Something quite different
Its the same with DIY SOS , thats not about house restoration neither , its about making you cry at the house owners plight ,

  13. Watchable - a pleasant surprise as i expected stooopid wheels , `new ` engine , and a bling modern paint scheme to keep the wannit crowd
    happy .
What could have been another `lost` van got a sympathic restoration much appreciated by the owner who obviously had fond memories of days when life was good . The cocking around keeps the viewers entertained , i wouldn`t expect an in depth rebuild to be shown and question what Baysearcher et-al were expecting ??

It shows just how much these lumps of metal mean to us - happy days !!

  14. I thought it was quite good but the main guy was a bit of a bell. End.

If I was trying a blag it, just say "look dude I have a massive camera crew chuck me some free curtains and I will put your business and you on national telly."

Simples, that was a lame blag that he tried and surely the grandad may have clocked something dodgy but that does not make good tv.

  15. So, I sat down to watch it and I'd already seen it when it was on Discovery.
All I need now is for some kind soul to tweet Fuzz and ask him to sort out my Cortina for me.

  16. You may have not learnt anything I did I learnt how to change the rear suspension bushes, and no your not a moaning old git you are just expressing an opinion which we are free to do,

As I don't tend to watch this sort of crap I don't really know what I expected either. What I didn't expect was a platform for some ex-celeb (apparently) and his arrogant ways.
But then I'm a wannit, new engine, modern paint scheme, kind of guy so what do I know!

  18. Don't expect too much from these programmes, they are entertainment first, restoration second. I did spot some of what they were having to do in the background if I looked really closely, but then I'm a sad anorak.

If you want a higher level of engineering content, go and check out Project Binky from Bad Obsession Motorsport. (You can find them on YouTube and Facebook.) Next episode is supposed to be out today and I can't wait.
