'Turn the heating off its too warm 'she said!

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Stan, May 22, 2013.

  1. My other half complained the van was too hot!! After all this time insulating heater pipes, draughtproofing, lining with reflective sheets.... when we have a semi -mild day the van finally gets too hot for her!

I did double check the oil level had not dropped (it was fine)

Phew! My work is done............. :D

  2. Haha!! I think we'll have the same problem. After 2 years of freezing to death every time we drive anywhere, mr moosey has come up with a cheap solution (we couldn't afford all the bits to fix the heating properly), so just connected a pipe from the back to the front and we have heat at last - it was lovely and warm went we went off on Friday last week. Of course - we can't turn it off now, without scrabbling under the van and undoing the jubilee clips and taking the pipe out, so had to drive along with the windows open coming back on Sunday!!!

  5. Me too! It took nearly 6 months to get the bloody thing working right, I even fitted one of those bilge pump boosters, it works VERY well now, just in time for the Sun to come out.

  8. How come ? Cant you just turn the flaps off? Even if the cables are broken and you cant be fussed - easiest way is to get some stainless wire and wrap it around the flap lever and around another bit then unclip it every time you want it off? Cubersome but easier than messing with jubillee clips!

Its still only 'mildly warm' in winter when I really want it hot - sods law super hot in summer , average in winter! Still wear long johns is my advice! hahaha

Sandybay if you only knew the half of it and how much faffing I have done! Exhaust wrap over the heat exchangers(brass foil beneath them) new seals on the pipes and wrapping the flexipipes and all the pipes to the front with B&Q reflective (behind radiator) plasti-foil stuff. Not finished as I cant get to the centre pipe yet (has a crappy vinyl cover on it)
I spend as much underneath as I do inside!

Right back out to see if the oil has dropped yet (oh yes thats another 3000 mile service ) when will it end! T5 anybody?:theforce:

You can usually use a bit of wire or cable ties to hold the levers open on the heat exchangers , sorry for butting in here but no one had answered your question :)

  10. Cos we haven't even got the bits with the flaps in them (control pods they're called apparently)!

Just replaced ( in certain areas read bought missing parts ) and had the same words utter last weekend by the other half.....must say they were probably the most expensive words since " I do " .:)

  12. Aha you have a T4 engine! Probably cheaper to swop out with a T1 1600 engine then than replace the control pods! At this point I am thinking Biscuit tins and home made flaps ( I am not joking - this is how my little mind works) o_O
Agreed mate! But its worth it in Autumn when they can pass as good heaters - then we are back to winter and moaning its too cold and why did you not buy a T5! :(
