Trouble starting when hot

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by The Little Camper Company, Jul 19, 2017.

  1. I've just fitted the lower rear tins to my type 4, before that whilst running in and poddling around town I had left them off, had some about 70 miles like that. Today, I pulled up after about 20 mins of driving, when I went to start it conked out on me and again was a sod to get to start.

I opened the hatch, bonnet and rear tailgate and it started and idled

The engine bay seemed a lot hotter than before, obviously the heat is now trapped in one direction by the other tin and the engine is sucking in and therefore giving poor combustion. My question is does the seal really make that much difference, it's on my to do list and want to make it my next job.

Totally confused as to what you have and haven't got, tin/ foam seal wise

  4. I have no seal, I do have all lower tins on.
Before I had only the very bottom tins, not the ones that how by the fly wheel, they join the top and bottom tins

  5. I was thinking of making a snorkel lol

There an engine bay temp sensor in there, probably has an effect on fueling

  11. As far as I can deduce - Before the tins the heat could escape to a certain extent While you were moving - now you have the tins but no foam , the heat gets past the tins where the foam should be and cannot escape (hot air rises) - so foam seal is essential
