Lots of different tours and things to do in Japan from the wacky https://tokyotoilet.jp/en/ to the …… well wacky https://streetkart.com/?campaignid=...lPlV_kWsqdswNvF1_C8UPW-Ouyb8R_xBoCw6YQAvD_BwE
When we did the big walk (22kms) through the mountains you come out at a quaint little village. About a km or 2 before you get there you are still in Forest and there was a solar powered vending machine selling 500ml cans of ice cold beer I bought 2
Just had breakfast, I tried an octopus ball with my bacon and eggs, then I realised the chewy bit that was inedible had suckers on it. Not a fan but I tried. Some more cherry blossoms for Mike. We have a baby Japanese cherry tree at home but so far we’ve just grown a stick. Our Acer tree became a twig, so we have previous.
I’ve tried growing an acer before - tricky things, need very specific soil conditions. After a while I realised I was just tending a dead stick!
We are in our huge hotel in Hiroshima, they held the 2023 G8 conference here. We get a normal meal tonight, but still fish. Lunch was different colours of slime, plus numbnuts here had to ask for a fork, to get rice out of the green tea that I thought was dipping sauce! On the way we visited the castle and gardens at Himeji, beautiful.
Just found this on the TV… are you actually Sue Perkins?? https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0008kg8 Still looks like a crazy wonderful place!
I have left a camera bag on a bench beside the Kennet and Avon Canal for as long as it took me to wander 2km and then walk very briskly back, scaring people who were speed walking the towpath by walking even faster and overtaking them while breathing heavily.. It was still there , untouched.
Hiroshima today, the peace museum was moving but I wouldn’t post the photos as it was hardly entertaining. Lots of melted things, shredded clothing and upsetting photos. I’ve seen pictures of a human shadow on some steps but didn’t expect I’d see the actual steps. When we went to Washington we saw the Enola Gay, which was chilling. Tomorrow we go to Kyoto by bullet train
Later we went by ferry to Miyajima Island, the floating gate would have been better if the tide was in! Didn’t have a squid on a stick but took a photo anyway. Saw a Beetle today, first VW I’ve spotted.
In Kyoto now after a ride on the bullet train. Saw a bunch of vintage Bentleys this morning, UK registered, on a tour of Japan, it’s a different world for some people. More shrines and gardens this afternoon, food is still weird but we’re all getting better with chopsticks. I’ll try them with fish, chips and mushy peas when we get home. We had a European style meal in the hotel, I ended up showing our Japanese guide how to use a knife and fork correctly! She found it odd that we never pick the plate up.
My uncle was in a Japanese prison of war camp “ during the war “ …. being a Yorkshireman, he probably taught them how to be polite!
From Kyoto today to Kanazawa on the North coast. Saw a splittie today, not seen a bay yet. More temples and gardens, starting to get a bit templed out, I’d rather go to a bike factory. I watched a YouTube video last night on how to use chopsticks properly. We did a tea ceremony yesterday, basically they Fanny around for an hour to make a brew, I’d rather get a can of hot coffee from a vending machine. I had a go on a traditional lute thing, but I couldn’t work out Smoke on the Water.
