  1. So for a good few months now I've been carpet lining the van, and today I finally finished it - Yay ;D

The bad news is that I now need to fix the floor in place so I can crack on with the rest of the interior. The bit I'm dreading is having to screw the plywood to the floor I have this major fear that I'm going to drill into a brake line or the fuel line and blow myself up. Ok yes I may have built this up a bit in my head lol.

My question is very basic, other than the centre where I can see the big pipe (the heater?!?) and the smaller pipe (no idea!!) are there any areas I should avoid, or for that matter areas where I should screw to?

    Thanks in advance ;D

  2. You'd have to be pretty unlucky to hit anything. Locate the brake lines by looking under the van. There're no fuel lines about.

Buy yourself some new drill bits and use a mains drill. I found a cordless doesn't run fast enough and a, say, 3mm bit will freeze and snap.

  3. why do you need to screw it down if you make it a snug fit it wont move
used marine ply on my floor and put laminate floor on top of that stuck down with glue
the only part i screwed down was by the sliding door

You'll be fine except if you hit dead centre, you'd hit the gear linkage.

...BUT you want to hit the high points of the tin floor. The answer is so obvious you'll kick yourself - Do as Westfalia did - dill and screw into the wood through the tin from below using wood screws a tad shorter than the floor thickness. BTW apart from the gearshift conduit down the centre, from above the worst you could do would be hit a top-hat or I-section. Westy only used 4 or 6 small screws.

  6. Mines only got a few screws holding it down, the rest is stuck down with silicone :) but my flooring is mdf slats running across the ridges and between the higher bits on the edges (siliconed down) and then ply on top screwed to the slats with short screws
