Join in this celebration of Scotland’s traditional national dish to help feed needy children in some of the poorest countries across the globe. The small Scottish Highland village of Carrbridge – home of the annual World Porridge Making Championship – has teamed up with the Scottish-based charity, Mary’s Meals to establish an international World Porridge Day.
As long as you cook & eat it correctly, porridge should contain nothing more than oats, water and salt with none of your mamby pamby things like sugar & milk
Sorry Don, but when you are in a hurry and the microwave has to suffice, a little sweetness does help the taste. I am eating mine at this very moment with a dash of maple syrup!
They used to serve up "porridge" at boarding school in Darkest Yorkshire. A strange grey goo that had the look and consistency of wet plaster...come to think of it it might just have been Put me off for years.
My mum is Scottish. I think as kids we were brought up on Scotts Porage Oats. She made it, I seem to remember, with water and milk...and sugar. You say you put milk n sugar in your porridge to some Scots they make you feel like you're Salman Rushdie....I like ice in my Scotch too....(gets ready to go into hiding with police protection for several years....)
My first taste of life in Great Britain.....yes I remember the experience very well.....like waking up from a nightmare when I left a few years later.
