January 2, was the date that was chosen to correspond with the official birth date of famed science fiction writer Isaac Asimov, who is thought to have been born January 2nd, 1920, was is responsible for some incredible works of science fiction literature such as “Nightfall” and the “Foundation Trilogy”.

I've never been a great fan of Asimov - I grew up on Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Who can argue with a guy who writes things like this:

I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the centre.

A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.

I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.”

As a kid I used to cycle to the local library and over time read pretty much every sci-fi novel they had

May celebrate tonight with a little ‘Silent Running’ and ‘Dark Star’ DVD double bill.

Never really been my thing, but I like Dr Who to an extent and thought Star trek the first series by Gene Roddenberry was pretty good.

    And Robert Silverberg

Peter F. Hamilton is good for a bit of space opera too, especially the Commonwealth Saga series

I'm still a bit divided on the Brian Herbert Dune novels - milking his dad's cows a bit imho
