Celebrate the birth of Rudolph Diesel and his vision of using vegetable oil as fuel on Biodiesel Day by switching to biodiesel fuel and power. Rudolph Diesel - great name :)

  7. Fuel for thought this one.

  8. Good biodiesel is fine in any diesel but the key thing is it must be good and there is a lot badly made fuel about

You too can drive along smelling like a chippy :D

  10. Most of the pump fuel you buy today has a %age of 'Bio' ingredients. Petrol is around 5% and diesel often more. It is a legal requirement.
Think of where this 'biofuel' comes from and then think of how much a loaf of bread has gone up by in recent months/years. Food for thought. (pun intended)

all i know is i have a mate with a modern pug 407 who shagged his injection pump and seals up due to the bad lubrication properties of it, i love an older more agriculteral diesel engine, my 79 series 3 landy would run on ANYTHING, especially in the summer, i'd often mix cooking oil and diesel at 50/50 ish and used to go to lidl/aldi for the cheapest muck i could get. to "blend" i'd even empty the deep fat fryer in the tank once i'd filtered it through an old t-towel, the only thing i did was change the fuel filter regularly, Terrordales is correct it did smell of a chip van when it was running, in the winter you had to mix a bit less due to waxing or you can add a drop of parrafin. Red/Heating oil - for off road use only ;) was also a favourite, now i'm back with a diesel car i long for a bit of a "cheat" but these PD engined vw's are a bit too new i reckon to fart about with so i'm sticking to forecourt stuff.

  12. I have used over 20,000 litres of homemade bio now in 6 or 7 different cars incl a vw beetle from new and the present juke from new with no issues BUT there is a lot of bad stuff about incl some small scale commercial outfits and some PDF,s can be problematic although the Juke one hasn't played up yet
The beetle mpg stayed the same but I lose about 10% with the Juke
If I can get the oil for free which is getting harder then it costs me about 15p a litre summer and 25p a litre winter excluding my time , it' is a messy hobby tho :)

stuff diesel it stinks full stop , bio diesel is for transits , red diesel is for landrovers and heating oil is for anybody who is daft enough to syphon it from their neighbours oil tank -- fowl stuff is diesel , i hate it
