They become tax free in April the following year - so 74 was tax free this April. 76 will become tax free April 2017
No we don't have MOTs here. The Police do stop suspect vehicles regularly for a vehicle examination which is done at the cop-shop. Having said that you do see some real " Bangers " about !
There is some good news, though. If the vehicle was registered between 1-7 January, 1975, the DVLA will let you register it as a historic vehicle, based on the assumption that the vehicle would have been made in the previous year.
Remember if you can prove that it was manufactured the previous year you can get exemption. I used my VW birth certificate.
probably 'cos it was imported. my bay was made 6/3/78 but dvla put 1/1/78 on the v5, i rang to tell them and they said "it's fine it would still be an "s" reg whatever" which is true but it will now become tax free (for the next owner) a year sooner.
Birth Certificte arrived today, says left factory November 1975, also says was Senegal Red... though looks orange to be!
@Baysearcher I wonder if the people at VW are getting lazy as mine has actual build and left factory dates. I brought the van 15 June 2011 and according to the certificate it was produced end of July so only 6 week delay
You and I started off the same colour I wonder if you can still manage to get away with getting tax free still next year?
