Tinware foam

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by physiopro, Jun 18, 2013.

  1. Hi guys and girls, does anybody know where I can purchase foam for the tinware on my type I engine, does it need to be heat resistant and therefore can't just use any old foam. Also has anybody got any photos of tinware in situ with foam on?
    Thanks

you mean the big one round the entire engine area? all the usuals sell it, foam one side sort of shiny the other, shiny side down.

  3. Thanks for that, no sorry didn't make myself clear, the foam around the tinware that bolts into the big tinware that fits over the oil cooler and has the alternator in it!

I think you'll find a lot of people use door/window sealing foam, I've haven't seen any that's melted yet.

  13. ah so its a performance upgrade more than a stock bit of tinware...

i.e. my engine wont die without it.

No, it's a standard part that helps to prevent air escaping around the cooler instead of passing through it.
