timing marks, /or scale

  1. Does anyone know where to go to get a "printable" copy of the timing marks for our T2 1700's. I'm finishing up a motor over haul and want to be able to time it better than the "static time" that I used for last summer season. I thought I saw them here some where but ? guess I'm loosing what's left of my mind. (I hav the scale but it's been painted over so many times, all I can make out are the lines along the scaled but I don't know which one is which.

  2. The scale should have a red dot on it for 7.5 degrees before top dead center. If its totally unreadable you can find the timing mark this way.

Or (i would) splash out for a new scale then you always have it http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Search/0/timing_scale.html

  3. Thanks, I have found the marks on the pulley and the case etc. I was looking fo the scale so I could set the timing and know if it's before or after TDC. I'll look for a closer course for a scale. I'd thought I seen where someone was making a stick on one to stick over the old ones.

  4. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

There is no mark on the case, you must have a scale. TDC is NOT at the case join on T4 engines.

  5. only do it neds way if you know the fan and hub haven't been messed with, otherwise you're bringing trouble on yourself. You can get TDC on #1 and then work it out from there by putting a mark on your case, or buy a timing scale
    :)

  6. Thanks guys, guess I'll go fro a new scale. Otherwize I'll not know where the time is at in any given situation.
