Throttle cable conduit

This may seem like a silly question…… I have a new throttle cable flexible conduit to fit but the new cable tube I fitted (main front to rear metal tube) would appear to be too long and I will have to cut it back a bit. Looking at the new conduit I assume that it should fit snugly between the end of the cable tube and the end of the guide that goes through the fan housing with the guide pushed fully in? It does seem obvious but just checking before I cut the tube in case I am missing something and cut it too short.
    Cheers

  2. Leave it full length - easier to thread the cable if I remember...?

  3. Cut it down so you've got about 15mm sticking out of the rear grommet. The "bell end" of the flexi should then fit over it nicely. If you leave it too long, it'll tend to kink the cable.

Hahaha and the above is perfect advice. cut it or don’t cut it.

    unless it’s cut too short

I found there was a sleeving bit on the joint of the flexi to the solid tube I had to recycle using some force when I did mine.

Thanks for the replies, I think I know what I’m doing- it’s the main fixed tube going along the chassis that I need to cut - not the fan housing guide, I fitted a new one but left it longer than needed so now I think I need to trim it back to leave exactly enough length for the new flexible conduit to reach the fan housing tube…

  12. Ah, right. I'd cut it so the flexi swoops up nicely onto the rear tinware.

Yea, it seems obvious but just making sure I wasn’t missing something

The flexi should be trying to actively push its it's way out at the back so that it stays put. On a T1 with the tube through the fan housing tinware it may be pushed out of the way forwards, by catching on the tube especially if you have a grommet or cable tie holding the tube through the fan housing , then it pops back into place a bit later, annoying when setting the throttle cable up.

Got the new cable conduit fitted today. Super-fiddly job, really struggled to get the conduit through into the engine bay and then it didn’t quite line up with the cable tube coming through the fan housing because the engine tin was sitting a bit high but I finally got everything lining up and cut the cable tube back to the right length so all good and another job ticked off the list

  17. Prob too late now, but worth putting a small jubilee clip or similar on the tube behind the fan shroud to stop the tube going walkies. It has a deep desire to travel...

Funnily enough, while I was fitting it I was thinking how I could secure everything as there is nothing actually holding any of the components together. Luckily, the short tube through the fan housing is tight in its slot as the tin is sitting a little high pushing it up and keeping it under tension inside the conduit and stopping it sliding in and out. I might re-visit it in the future and bodge something up….

  19. Should also be a grommet on the tinware behind the fanshroud, wich might grip the tube.

I had to put a small clamping bracket on the coil side of the shroud to stop the tube moving, otherwise it'll go walkies...

There’s a grommet in the fan housing on the engine side but the front of the fan housing has a slot rather than a hole so has no grommet. the grommet that’s there has hardened so isn’t gripping the tube. I’ll probably replace it anyway and then fashion something to hold everything together.
