Hi all Do you need to move the throttle cable position when fitting ICTs on a type 4? Hopefully you can see from the photo that the existing throttle cable exit point into the engine bay is about 3 inches to the left of the hex bar throttle cable bracket with it slid as far to the left as possible. Thx.
Yes I'd say so. You could fit some kind of wheel to redirect but it wouldn't be pulling straight so not ideal. If you do move it you need to rig up something on the other side of the tin to catch the cable outer.
How is the outer cable usually held in position? My inner cable just comes through a hole in the tin - is that right? - although I haven't had chance to take a look behind the tin yet.. a job for this evening! Thx.
If it’s a hex bar linkage the pull lever position is adjustable and you should be able to align it with the original cable position. If it’s a bell crank type you may need to move the position through the tin or use a jockey wheel.
I have this set up on my T4 engined prototype bay, you just use a hex bar and slide the bracket opposite to where the cable exits if that makes sense
It’s not just a hole in the tin, the cable comes through a cup on the side of the tin that you can’t see, the cup retains the outer cable. It can be moved but you need to remove the tin. Incidentally, where did you get your spark plug leads?
HT leads were on the bus when I bought it mate. If you look at the photo & read the post, you can see that the bracket won't line up with the cable. I had a look this evening and see the cup at the back that retains the outer cable. Looking to try & find a generic one so I can reposition to cable, but can't seem to find one. May have to make something up out of an old bolt.
The throttle cable comes up to the tinware in a bowden cable tube over the gearbox. So you can move the engine end around, line it up with a hole in the gearbox support arch and go through the tinware ..
...and the neatest place to that lines up with a hole through the hanger on a T4 tin is here. This might be a bit high for your linkage? You can see the original on the left. I cut the end off a flexi brake hose to make my outer catcher. I will say it's a ruddy fiddle feeding the cable though the hanger then the fitting in this position.
