i wondered about buying some bog standard fuel filler hose as i have a horrible aversion to paying over the odds for vw rubber hoses or anything rubber and German quality tbh , does anyone have any thoughts on this , i do know the topic was covered on here some time ago re sizes , quality etc but can't find it as usual - over to you guys
because of the diameter its difficult to source and pretty expensive, I bought a metre of it 5omm internal diameter, but due to the reinforcing and thickness of the hose it has pretty much zero flex stretch etc, I managed to fit it onto an prototype bay as the pipe is straight but it took hours to do, when I fitted them to mine I just bought new from heritage and it was a doddle
They are soo blooming expensive though Dave - jesus ! It isn't as if i don't know what the mark up on these bits are , they will tell you there is no profit in it , maybe not for them but the manufacturer or supplier sure do load it up , i used to deliver stuff for a rubber hose factory in the black country so i have a bit of insight !
I wonder if a steel bit instead of rubber with a very short (50mm) joiner is a better longterm solution, wont perish then, I could probably have some made in stainless for similar or perhaps less money
dunno if this link will work https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=c...dex.cfm%3FFunction%3D3%26SKU%3DSWC609;695;695 It's industrial fuel hose (the type that tankers have on them to go between the tanker and the petrol station fitting). I got some from a hose specialist in southend for a whopping £6. On the double cab theres a section of metal between the filler elbow and the rubber filler hose. I used this stuff to go between the metal bit and the tank. there's no way I'm paying 2 of quid for the rubbish bit of rubber the main suppliers are selling. this stuff will probably last longer too! it's fairly flexible but has a steel band running through it so you need a decent hacksaw to cut it. Dave
Be cautious about those hoses from Heritage. I'll only buy one if I'm down there. I've returned 2 and having told Dave he went down there with my original as a pattern. Several we're short. I'd like to think VWH would have had the short ones binned but it seems not.
With all this carry on with ethanol content being increased in petrol I was wondering if the current stock of filler hoses were of a standard suitable. Of course I replaced mine last year!
I've just done the filler neck to tank hose, and the filler neck rubber elbow at the top on my project bus. £50!!! For a couple of bits of rubber.
If you think £50 a lot, then look for rubber suits with inflatable breast £150 on eBay. And imagine the worry on the mechanophilia community with what the extra ethanol will do to condoms?? A sharp increase of CIDS is expected if they are not careful.
