Could be worth checking if stock ones adjust shorter. Something like...(with a universal adjustable rod) Otherwise chop off the end with the right hand thread, extend the slot , drill out weld on clamp off old end Fit and weld clamp to new end. Tap deeper thread (the RH threads and corresponding taps are standard righty-tighty style..) Do it after welding because of distortion.
